Centre Coordinator and Project Manager (5-year fixed term)

15 December 2020 by Sean O'Neill

We are looking for an accomplished and multitalented Centre Coordinator and Project Manager for the opportunity to develop and shape the role to support the newly established Cambridge Centre for AI in Medicine (CCAIM) at the University of Cambridge. CCAIM is a multidisciplinary centre created to produce cutting-edge machine learning (ML) research to solve complex problems in biomedical science, medical discovery and healthcare delivery. Funded by AstraZeneca and GSK, and with strong research ties to the NHS, CCAIM will also drive the revolution in ML-powered precision medicine.

This role will be responsible for centre’s £7 million grant. Reporting to and fully supporting the CCAIM Directors, this role will oversee and manage the daya to day running of the Ccentre as well as the development, delivery and evaluation of the centre’s goals. The role will require initiative and creativity to develop an action plan for the implementation of CCAIM strategy, developing policies and procedures, supporting the recruitment of staff and PhD students, cultivating relationships with our many collaborators, financial analysis and report writing, ensuring regulatory and procurement compliance – and more.

The role will work with the Directors to ensure that financial resources are adequately allocated to meet the Centre’s timelines and deliverables. They will also monitor expenditure to ensure it is properly planned, compile and present draft budgets and reports, and flag up any concerns in a timely manner.

Besides financial skills, the role requires someone with great communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. That is because the role will be coordinating interactions with stakeholders including our funders, lead organisations and partners, and a broad range of other academic, practitioner and policy organisations. They will also be putting together national network events (includeing organising and hosting online events), workshops and meetings, including arranging speakers.

The successful candidate will have excellent administration skills and experience of managing large-scale projects, and proven competence in budget development and monitoring. We are looking for someone who who shows initiative and resourcefulness as well as being extremely well-organiszed, with a problem-solving mentality.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 5 years in the first instance.

Informal inquiries can be made by contacting LE24672@maths.cam.ac.uk.
